FIELD HERPING

Field herping (looking for reptiles and amphibians in the wild) is an enjoyable activity that should give you a broader understanding how these species live and interact with their environment.

In most cases, herping involves watching, photographing or catch and release. We are not averse to occasionally keeping specimens for native breeding projects, but be aware of your local laws and don't overcollect. Most small native species aren't suitable for captive husbandry and are best enjoyed watching in their own habitat.

If you enjoy a challenge, try keeping a personal life list of all the reptiles and amphibians you've seen in the wild. Please feel free to browse the information below and be sure to post your own herping stories in our Field Herping Forum.

If you are really interested in learning more about field herping and how to be more successful at finding reptiles we highly recommend purchasing the Field Herping Guide. It is the best put together guide we have found on field herping. You can download a copy of the ebook from the website below.
